COLOMBO – Rev. Fr. Dilan Perera, OMI. was officially installed as the Provincial Superior of the Colombo Province of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate on 19 October 2026 at the Mazenod House Chapel in Mattakkuliya, Colombo 15.
The solemn Eucharistic Celebration was presided over by Rev. Fr. Roshan Silva, OMI, the outgoing Provincial Superior while Fr. Dilan and his new group of Councillors (Frs. Andrias Fernando, Shanil Jayawardena, Jude Saparamadu, Anton Grecian and Shalinda Jude) were the concelebrants. During his homily, he stressed the importance of being inspired by the qualities of leadership of Jesus Christ as well as our Holy Founder.
Then, the Rite of Installation was begun with a hymn to the Holy Spirit. After the Profession of Faith, the new Provincial publicly pronounced an oath of fidelity and signed it. Then it was time for the Promulgation of the decree of appointment sent by the Superior General. It was read out by Fr. Shivantha Waas, OMI.
Among the other distinguished guests, were Rt. Rev. Dr. Norbert Andradi, OMI, the former Bishop of Anuradhapura, Rev. Sr. Chandani Jayasuriya, HF, the Provincial of the Holy Family Sisters of Bordeaux (Colombo Province), and Rev. Sr. Vajira Abeysinghe, RGS, Secretary of the CMRS.
After the Holy Eucharist, the Oblates, lay associates, and the other invited guests gathered for a memorable felicitation ceremony.
A Celebration of Leadership and Community
The felicitation began with an opening prayer and welcoming remarks delivered by Fr. Mark Sanjaya, OMI. The event reached an early highlight with the celebratory cutting of the cake, symbolising a sweet start to a new chapter of leadership.
A significant moment in administrative continuity took place as Fr. Anton Grecian, OMI presented the Financial Directory to both the incoming and outgoing Provincial Superiors.
Honouring Six Years of Dedicated Service
The assembly paused to reflect on the last six years of growth and ministry through a special video presentation highlighting key milestones under the outgoing leadership. Rev. Fr. Roshan Silva OMI, the outgoing Provincial, then addressed the assembly, expressing gratitude for the unwavering support of the Province throughout his tenure.
The atmosphere was further enriched by a delightful dance performance presented by the children of Samata Sarana.
Welcoming the New Provincial Superior
A touching video tribute honoured Fr. Dilan Perera, OMI, showcasing his journey and dedication to the Oblate mission. Taking the podium as the newly installed Provincial Superior, Fr. Dilan delivered an inspiring inaugural address outlining his vision and commitment to leading the Province forward.
In token of appreciation for their faithful leadership and service, commemorative souvenirs were presented to the former Provincial and outgoing Council members.
Gratitude and Fellowship
The celebration concluded on a spirit of gratitude with a thanksgiving prayer offered by Fr. Amila Sandaruwan, OMI. Fr. Andrias Fernando, OMI then led the grace before meals, bringing the community together to share in a celebratory meal and fellowship.
