Tissa Balasuriya Daham Ketha

Located at Ashokarama Mawatha, Andiambalama, the "Tissa Balasuriya Daham Ketha" (TBDK) translates to the "Field where the Doctrine is given life." This 26-acre property was generously donated to the Oblate Congregation from his parental inheritance by the renowned theologian and activist, Rev. Fr. Tissa Balasuriya, O.M.I.

History & Evolution

Originally operating as the "CSR Farm" under the Centre for Society and Religion (CSR), the property was officially secured as an Oblate property during the tenure of Provincial Superior Rev. Fr. Rohan Silva, O.M.I. Before his passing, Fr. Balasuriya stipulated that the land must be dedicated to Kingdom ministries in accordance with the Oblate charism.

In line with the donor’s original vision, TBDK was founded with three primary objectives:

  • To conduct religious and life education programs for children, youth, and adults.

  • To promote reconciliation, peace-building, and "North-South Dialogue" for peaceful coexistence.

  • To advocate for justice, peace, the integrity of creation, human rights, interreligious dialogue, and integral human development.

Directors of the Centre

Over the years, the center has been guided by a succession of dedicated Oblate Directors:

  • Rev. Fr. John Camillus Fernando, O.M.I. (2009–2012)

  • Rev. Fr. Joe Cooray, O.M.I. (2012–2017)

  • Rev. Fr. Maximus Fernando, O.M.I. (2017–2019)

  • Rev. Fr. Dennis Iddamalgoda, O.M.I. (2019–2021)

  • Rev. Fr. Reginald Jayamaha, O.M.I. (2021–Present)

A New Era: The Centre for Ecological and Narrative Healing

In 2021, under the direction of Rev. Fr. Reginald Jayamaha, O.M.I., TBDK evolved to meet the urgent needs of the times by transforming into a Meditation and Psychotherapy Centre. Utilizing Fr. Jayamaha’s extensive training in Australia, the center now specializes in Narrative Therapy.

Narrative Therapy is a respectful, non-blaming form of psychotherapy that helps people identify their core values and skills. This empowering approach fosters genuine self-awareness, enabling individuals to constructively and serenely navigate present anxieties and future challenges.

To support this healing process, TBDK offers a tranquil, nature-friendly environment characterized by fresh air and scenic beauty. The center encourages a simple lifestyle with minimal distractions, providing lodging and opportunities for occupational therapy designed to help visitors rediscover their self-worth and inner peace.

Vision & Mission

Inspired by Christ's promise, "I have come so that they may have life and have it to the full" (John 10:10), and guided by St. Irenaeus ("The glory of God is man fully alive") and St. Eugene de Mazenod ("Love embraces all; for new needs, it invents new means"), TBDK is committed to glorifying God. The center achieves this by assisting those in pain to rediscover joyful, peaceful lives through therapeutic empowerment and spiritual renewal.
