MAZENOD YOUTH JOURNEY

The Mazenod Youth Journey is a vibrant youth ministry initiated by the Oblate Province of Colombo in 2014. Guided by the vision of its pioneer, Rev. Fr. Susith Randil Fernando, OMI, the ministry held its inaugural ceremony at the De Mazenod House Chapel on December 7, 2014, gathering 50 young people from across the country.

A Journey, Not Just an Association

We emphasize that this is not merely an association, but a shared journey. We warmly welcome youth of all races, creeds, and backgrounds to walk alongside the Oblates. It is a space where young people can be deeply nourished by the Oblate charism, discovering their purpose and potential in a supportive community.

Our Vision

To create an active, deeply spiritual, and welcoming atmosphere wherever we are and wherever we are sent.

Our Mission

To empower the younger generation through workshops, community services, spiritual encounters, and positive engagement on social media. This is fundamentally an Oblate mission for youth, with youth, and by youth.

Core Formation & Outreach

We primarily welcome young adults aged 16 and older. Our goal is to holistically uplift their lives so they can lead good, impactful Christian lives. To achieve this, we focus on:

  • Leadership & Skill Training: We provide comprehensive training in public preaching, seminar organization, and retreat facilitation, deeply rooted in the life and style of St. Eugene de Mazenod.

  • Empowerment & Support: We pay close attention to the practical needs of our youth, helping them navigate livelihood challenges and guiding them toward optional occupations to support their educational and personal expenses.

  • Environmental Stewardship: Instilling a strong sense of responsibility to protect and care for our natural environment.

  • Missionary Support: Our youth actively support broader Oblate missions in various capacities, offering their time through programs, retreats, workshops, and financial contributions.

Today, the movement is powered by a dedicated core group of over 50 active youth leaders who continue to drive its mission forward.

A Global Footprint: Special Milestones

The Mazenod Youth Journey has proudly represented the Sri Lankan Oblate mission on the global stage through several international spiritual encounters:

  • 2016: Participated in the International Oblate Youth Encounter and World Youth Day (WYD) in Poland, followed by a visit to New York.

  • 2016: Visited Vatican City and the Oblate General House in Rome.

  • 2017: Undertook a profound spiritual pilgrimage to the Holy Land.

  • 2019: Represented the province by special invitation at the Vocation Week program in Indonesia.
