THE OBLATE SCHOLASTICATE

Situated in Ampitiya, a serene suburb of Kandy in Sri Lanka's Central Province, the Oblate Scholasticate serves as the primary clergy formation institute for the Colombo Province of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate.

A Symbolic and Serene Location
Nestled on an 11-acre sloping landscape, the Scholasticate’s elevated geographical position overlooking the surrounding religious institutions—including the National Seminary Campus—is deeply symbolic. It beautifully reflects the pioneering missionary endeavors of the Oblates, their grassroots thrust for evangelization, and the high-quality, pastorally oriented formation provided within its walls.

Our History and Facilities
Inheriting a proud legacy that began in 1959, the Scholasticate is a spacious, two-story edifice designed to provide a holistic environment for religious life. The facility is equipped to accommodate up to 60 students alongside a dedicated team of formators.
The grounds feature a beautiful, spacious chapel, an extensive library, a 200-seat auditorium, guest quarters, and all essential living and domestic amenities. Having run its course for over half a century, this historic structure serves as a silent, tranquil haven that the Province continually maintains and updates for future generations.

A Legacy of Formation
Since its inception, the Kandy Scholasticate has nurtured, trained, and warmly sheltered hundreds of Oblate priests and brothers belonging to both Oblate Provinces in Sri Lanka.
To every one of its alumni, the Scholasticate is remembered with deep nostalgia and gratitude as a "loving mother" who cared for them during their most vital formative years. Today, it continues this sacred mission, serving as home to a close-knit, dedicated religious community of young scholastics and experienced formators striving to live out the Christian discipleship of the Oblate way of life.
