SAHANA MEDURA

The Garden of Tranquility

"Sahana Medura," which translates to "The Garden of Tranquility," stands as a profound witness to God’s providential love for the most vulnerable in our society. For over a quarter of a century, this center has served as a sanctuary of comfort, peace, and healing for individuals experiencing severe mental trauma and psychological struggles.

A Legacy of Compassion and Healing

The institute was founded in the early 1990s by the late Rev. Fr. Fraccid Anthony, OMI. What began as a humble refuge quickly became an instrument of peace for hundreds of people undergoing traumatic life changes. As the demand for mental health support grew, Fr. Fraccid expanded the center to include residential facilities and actively trained counselors to serve both within and outside the institute.

As he advanced in age, Fr. Fraccid sought to ensure the future of this vital ministry by entrusting its total responsibility to the Oblate Province. Rev. Fr. Chrishantha Jayalath, OMI, served as his first assistant, and on November 12, 2017, Rev. Fr. Presanna Rodrigo, OMI, was appointed as the first successive director. A few months later, Fr. Fraccid was called to eternal rest and was buried within the serene premises of Sahana Medura, forever remaining close to the mission he built.

Our Services

Sahana Medura provides dedicated psychological and spiritual support through two main avenues:

  • Residential Therapeutic Care: We provide a safe, structured environment with a daily therapeutic timetable designed to help residential patients heal, rebuild their confidence, and gently transition back to their normal lives.

  • Outpatient Counseling: On Saturdays and Sundays, the center opens its doors to the wider public. We offer professional counseling services for children, adults, and families struggling with stress, trauma, and frustration. Many clients have successfully started a new chapter in their lives through this weekend service.

A Mission Sustained by Grace

Inspired by the words of Jesus—“Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me” (Matthew 25:40)—Sahana Medura is truly a place of encounter with Christ in the poor and the marginalized.

The center relies entirely on Divine Providence and the immense generosity of donors who sustain the mission by providing food, dry rations, and financial support. Benefactors and volunteers frequently visit to spend time with the residents, entertain them, and join the community in the celebration of the Eucharist. We continuously hold our generous supporters in our daily prayers.
